San Francisco School Alliance

Learning Reimagined

The Challenge

Despite the recent progress, make no mistake: we’ve got significant work to do. While the San Francisco Unified School District is California’s top-performing urban school district, 20% of its students fail to graduate. That’s one out of every five students.

For a progressive city on the leading edge of new ideas and innovation, San Francisco also has deep and long-standing socio-economic disparities in our neighborhoods and schools. The San Francisco School Alliance was founded with the belief that the quality of a child’s education should not depend on the zip code they live in. If we are to live up to our promise as a world-class city, it is in our collective self-interest to ensure that every child attending our schools receives the knowledge, skills and confidence to prepare them for success in the 21st century – in college, careers, and as citizens.

1 out of 5 SFUSD students drop out of high school. Among African American and Latino students students, its 1 out of 3.

THE SAN FRANCISCO SCHOOL ALLIANCE

The role of the School Alliance is to harness the energy of a wide-ranging coalition of local, state and national partners to achieve this aim. Together with the district leadership, the School Alliance and its partners have embarked on a bold five-year strategic plan that directly enlists every school’s leadership team and the broader community in this ground-up vision of transformation.

We can do this, but it will take leadership, political will, civic engagement, and significant resources. We ask you to join us as we create a culture of collaboration, innovation, and results – not only for the future of the next generation, but for the fabric of life in this City as well.

More than half of all SFUSD graduates do not complete the courses needed to attend California public universities.

It Takes A City. This City.
