San Francisco School Alliance

Learning Reimagined

College Success

At the heart of everything we do is our belief in the powerful role education plays in realizing the potential of every child and young person.

College for All

In San Francisco, we are making great strides in making college and success a reality for our 56,000 students. Starting with the class of 2012, every student who graduates from SFUSD will have completed the A-G requirements—making them eligible for enrollment at a California State University or University of California campus.

Scholarship Support

With the long-time generous support of the Alexander M. and June L. Maisin Foundation/ Jewish Community Endowment Fund and Stone & Youngberg, the School Alliance has invested over $2 million in college scholarships for more than 500 graduates of our city’s public high schools, all of them from low-income families. For many, they are the first in their families to attend college.

  • Maisin Scholar Award

The Maisin Scholar Award acknowledges students whose strengths may not be in their academic performance, but rather in their unwavering commitment to their future goals. The award is designed to support the needs of economically disadvantaged students in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) who are dedicated to continuing their education in traditional or non-traditional ways. Since 1998, the Maisin Scholar Award has granted over $2 million dollars in scholarships to more than 500 students in SFUSD.

  • Benjamin J. Baum Scholarship

The scholarship was established by Stone & Youngberg in 2004 to recognize the important contributions of former Stone & Youngberg colleague Ben Baum, who began his career in the firm’s mail room in 1932, and ultimately led the firm as managing partner for thirty-five years. Baum, who passed away at the age of ninety-one in 2003, was a third-generation San Franciscan who graduated from Lowell High School and attended the University of California at Berkeley.

The scholarship grants San Francisco public school recipients $1,000 for each year of collegiate study. It is distributed through the San Francisco School Alliance, an independent non-profit organization committed to ensuring that every San Francisco public school student receives a world-class education.
